On 20th Sept 2017, Greg Mella, the discipline leader of sustainable design from SmithGroup JJR, gave a presentation of Setting Energy and Emissions Targets. Now we share the presentation video (English presentation + Chinese subtitles).

Greg is a Vice President and Director of Sustainable Design at SmithGroupJJR. He is a recognized expert in sustainable design, having contributed to ground breaking projects like the world’s first LEED Platinum project: the Chesapeake Bay Foundation’s Merrill Center, and most recently for CBF’s LEED-Platinum, Living Building Challenge certified, Brock Environmental Center. A past member of the AIA’s Committee on the Environment Advisory Group, Greg currently serves as co-chair on the AIA’s 2030 Commitment Working Group. Greg is a registered architect in Maryland, Virginia, and the District of Columbia.
Abstract
This presentation introduces the energy use intensity, setting the energy and emissions targets of the zero net carbon building, the difference between the site energy and source energy, and the building energy simulation. Finally, Greg uses a case study to demonstrate the design process of the zero net carbon building.
