Christopher Meek

On 21st Sept 2017, Christopher Meek, the associate professor and director of the Integrated Design Lab from University of Washington, gave a presentation of Daylighting and Integrated Lighting Design. Now we share the presentation video (English presentation + Chinese subtitles).

Christopher Meek

AIA, IES, Associate Professor, Director of the Integrated Design Lab, University of Washington

Christopher Meek, AIA, IES is Associate Professor of Architecture at the University of Washington and Director of the Integrated Design Lab (UW IDL) at the University’s College of Built Environments. His research focuses on the integration of natural systems in building design to improve indoor environmental quality and building energy efficiency. Prof. Meek is nationally recognized in the area of daylighting, integrated lighting design, and dynamic building enclosure. Over the past decade, Prof. Meek has consulted on over 10 million square feet of commercial and institutional buildings including working, learning, and healing environments including the recently completed Bullitt Center in Seattle, WA. His research has been funded by the Northwest Energy Efficiency Alliance, the National Science Foundation, the US Department of Energy, New Buildings Institute, the Illuminating Engineering Society, and the American Institute of Architects. Prof. Meek teaches graduate and undergraduate level courses on building design and technology at the UW Department of Architecture.

Abstract

The presentation compares different architectural design approaches before and after the lighting technology revolution, and also introduces the basic knowledge of the architectural optics and classic design strategies, as well as the main indicators and design standards. The speech combines the theories and case studies, and causes more thinking through the comparison of successful and unsuccessful examples.
